If I ever got one of these straw shrimp, it would go immediately into my lure display box. Art like this should be seen and appreciated. If I got two of them, the second one would be tied onto my line and fished! What a great lure. This guy has the steadiest hands I've ever seen.....

Anyone try making one of these shrimp? My 1st looked so so, but nothing to brag about. Could not find the clear flex straws, so I use a slightly transparent white one with thin red stripes. The clear would have made mine look much better. My shrimp turned out just a bit short. It would have looked much better if it had been at least 1/4 inch longer, but for a 1st, for me, I am fairly satisfied with my results, and think it will catch fish.

EvBlue, thanks for posting this link. I think if you had titled it straw shrimp, you'd have gotten more responses. Did you make one yourself? If so, where did you get the clear flex sraws?

RouseD- nah, I haven't tried to tie one...but if'n I get a hankerin' for some cuttlefish I will
I usually go for more impressionistic ties with good movement but obviously the straw shrimp do work.

The straw shrimp should work well for salt water species, either tied in a fly or made for non fly uses.

My 2nd attempt was way worse than my 1st. Back to the drawing board.

Well, I gave it a shot. Didn't turn out too badly, but gonna need to order some different straws. He is clearly using a wider diameter straw and one that doesn't turn milky white when bent. 4.97 down the drain, but the kids will use 'em!

GM, I had a medical test done in Greenville at Physicians East, and got a straw that was close to what I'd like to get. None of the nurses knew where they came from. I ran across some on ebay that may be the ticket, but it would be a guess. The item said it was translucent flexable straws, but I think they were not the large ones.
