Hey.
I'm heading to Cherokee for a couple days and would like to spin fish the public waters while I'm there.
Would this be legal with a tribal permit ?
Thanks & good fishin.

If I understand your question correctly, you should be fine fishing almost anywhere within Cherokee with a tribal fishing permit. The trophy waters within the res might require a different/another permit. If you plan to hit up public waters outside of the res you will need a NC state fishing license with trout stamp.

The trophy water is very wll marked, you can't miss it. It requires a trophy permit AND the daily permit to fish this section. The non restricted/ bait fishing water requires just the daily permit. It is also very well marked. When you stop and get your permit, ask for a map. You can also download a map of the waters.....Soco/Ravenfork/Bunches/Ponds near the KOA online. The only other water/signs to look for are the member/tribal water. This is mostly located in the headwaters. It is marked also. Have fun. It is not as complicated as it sounds. Just remember that catch & release isn't allowed on the bait/ non trophy water.

I'm always surprised about the bait/non-trophy water being a must keep the fish waters. I'm not totally sure the reason for that, but guess it's because most folks don't understand proper fish handling (most would die if put back anyway)and they want ya to catch your 7 fish and hit the road, not mess around all day??
