Finally got one. Been going to the point for 3 years trying to catch a citation drum and finally did it. I have never seen the point as crowded as it was last week with vehicles 3 and 4 deep at some times. Had a couple of 50+ over 40" days and reports from yesterday say they got 75 of them on the beach. Hope to get another trip in before the run is over but if not..... I'll be ready for some Cobia.
Actually I used about 5 shrimp on a 8/0 circle hook. Had been fishing with Bunker and Mullet strips all day and getting nothing but dog sharks. A guy beside me caught a 26" pup using shrimp so I thought what the heck and tried it on my next cast. Hooked into something "BIG" but had my drag set too tight and snapped my line . After 10 minutes of retying, rebaited with shrimp, , CHECKED MY DRAG, and recast. About 10 minutes later, this one hit for all it was worth. By the way, the blood all over the fish and me is MINE. I'll be a little more cautious putting my hand in it's mouth the next time. All and all I would say the fight was a draw. FANTASTIC FEELING THOUGH.
