I finally taking some leave form the Air Force and headed to the NC....will be there from 20 Dec to 2 Jan...I'm looking for any info on lakes that have bass and trout in it or any lakes that have bass and large shad or some other bait...I will be bringing my own rods and swimbaits...I'm looking for a guide just to haul me around...I don't care if I catch anything...I just want to see if what wee use out here in California will work...Looking for any info or ideas...Looking for an all day trip...

You'd probably have to hit the mountain lakes to find some with trout in them, but shad are present in most of the lakes. It might be a little cold for bass, but you might be able to entice some striper with your swim baits.

Striper Sniper and one of the other guys do guiding on Jordan and I think they occassionally hit Kerr and the Roanoke for bass, striper, and crappie.

THanks for the help...I guessing you can't post a phone number on here...As for a lake that has trout in it, no biggie...I'm looking for a lake with clearish water that has some type of big baitfsh and bass...

The baits I will be throwing, will be from 6" to 12" in length...In a wide range of patterns...

As for the area I will be in, that would be Durham...But I will travel wherever to give it a go...

I will be using my headcam the whole time...Hopefully I can stick one

See you on the water
Thanks again

Harris Lake is probably the closest thing to what you're looking for in the central NC region - its weedy which keeps the sediment down and clears the water (a bit). Trout-free though.

I had read a report last year about a local rock quarry somewhere around Chapel Hill/Carrboro that stocked a variety of trout in the winter and offered fly-fishing access (for a fee). If they had a native LM population beforehand, that would really be the closest thing to SoCal LM fishing. I'm still looking for the name...will post when I find it.

I think somewhere on the board here we have a posting about a new record Kokonee salmon for NC. That lake might also offer possibilities, since they only run about as big as a trout and were stocked as forage fish there.

Fontana Lake it is...

I think I will fish wiggins mill when I first get there...if they are open...then later I will head to the mountains for Fontana Lake and give it a go. I think I have found a guide to let me do my thing...I think he might think I'm alittle off my rocker, throwing 12" to 16" trout baits that float looking for a bass. But I have to give it a go...

THanks again for all the help...If you on the water, look for a ******* with a camera on his head...that would be me:eek:

See you on the water
