Went fishing on Lake Norman yesterday evening with Wes Lewis and Josh Wahab and we got into some very nice crappie, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and white perch action. The fish were not nearly as active as last week and we did not find any striped bass, but Wes was still able to put on some really nice-sized fish.
We mainly hit the docks along the creeks. Wes caught an outsized crappie on a crankbait that was bigger at the time than the largemouth and spotted bass we were catching. I later caught a white perch on a twitchbait that really nailed the plug and was bigger than any of the white perch I saw last week.
The bass were really spread out and not nearly as aggressive as they have been. We were catching the occasional spotted bass, mostly in the shallows around the rocks and other structure.
Wes caught the evening’s big fish with a 3lb largemouth he pulled out from under a dock on a crankbait. We hit other bass here and there but never could get a consistent bite going. I still ended up with a mess of fish to put in the freezer for dinner next week.
Josh had a great time learning to cash and tossing our little ones back. He really enjoyed the evening.
Skies were threatening but the rain never materialized. We were hoping to get into the same schooling striped bass action we had last week but that never materialized.
The forecast for the weekend calls for sunny skies and good fishing weather on Saturday with a chance of thunderstorms on Sunday.
