doesn't really surprise me, but turns out the last couple of years in Illinios, the DNR gave out(free) 1240 deer permits to sports figures(like they can't afford it), politicians, a judge and other friends with connections. all the while us poor slugs are hoping for a lucky draw hope N.C. is in order....

You can't buy a license and hunt? You have to put your name in a pool and hope it gets drawn? Do I understand this right? That would absolutely stink!!

yes, you apply for a permit by picking a county(or state area) and a 2nd choice county, sending in $15 0r $30 for either sex and doe only. each county has an allotment to deer population. so yea, some 1240 people got jipped, probably the better areas.... that is gun season, 3day weekend before Thanksgiving and a 4 day the beginning of Dec.
Bow starts Oct. 1st till mid Jan. that permit ($26) is good for anywhere in state

Well, no draw here,, purchase your liscense (I recommend the NC Sportsman's liscense).. and you have your pick of 6 deer (either 4 antlered and two does, or 4 does and 2 antlered... two of the tags are hunters choice)..

So if you have a liscense, 6 deer and find a gameland to scout and you'll be good to go.

Now turkey.. that's a different thing.. some areas are permit hunts, but usually not alot of competition for turkey hunts so pretty easy to obtain. But not all areas are turkey permit.. just go hunt and with sportsmans liscense, you get trout waters, gamelands, 6 deer, two turkey, two wild boar and black bear tags not to mention the free HIP for waterfoul.

Yes, can purchase online, or at Walmart, or thru a NC authorized wildlife agent.

That is correct.

One thing, need a hunter safety certificate or if purchasing online, must sign a statement saying a Hunting Safety course has been attended. Always good to have a copy of it on you just in case, during the season...

Yup, pretty simple process. Liscense comes in the mail within a week or two.. same thing for fishing liscenses.

what is a gameland ? is it state ground that is accessable to residents? would they not limit how many people are in an area?

Coach - No, doesnt have to be a NC hunter safety -- can use another states hunter safety program, just have to have proof

Ghost, gameland is Game Lands open to the public, accessable by the public, No rule or limit on amount of hunters.. though.. you'll pretty much find 90% of the hunters within a mile or less of their vehicle at the access area.. usually less.

Gamelands - NO motorized vehicles.. so no ATV's! Kill it, you drag it (or cart it out), only exception is if you are handicap'd only then with a special permit can you operate a motorized vehicle on NC Public gamelands.
