Daughter's First Fish

I now have 3 kids. Boy, girl, girl. Our newest is 7 weeks old, and my older daughter turns 3 in a few weeks. This afternoon I had the two oldest munchkins while Mom could get away with the baby and her mother. I chose to take them bank fishing at a friend's pond. This is the same location of my son's first trip a few years ago.

We started things off with a quick strategic nap on the ride out after lunch.

This pond always delivers and my daughter caught her first fish, a small shellcracker. She then proceeded to put all of us to shame with bream after bream on her snoopy rod. This is her fighting and holding first fish.

My son lost interest and was "exploring" while she was slaying the fish. She was asking to hold the worms and playing with the fish in our bucket. Overall, I was very pleased with her enthusiasm, willingness to handle the fish, and skill with the rod. I did all the baiting, casting, and un-hooking, but she did the rest.

She also has my son's camera prowess, snapping this pic of me and our biggest bream, a nice shellcracker. They wanted to take this one home, but it was the only keeper we caught, so back into the pond it went.

I caught one bass and lost two others. I'm sure you'll see all 3 of us in a canoe this summer.

That is awesome man. Congrats on a great day. I need to start fishing with you if you let the fellow fishing passengers snooze on the way to the fishing spot. :D

That's the only way to guarantee your fishing partner doesn't know where you are :)

Great pics of some fine looking kids. Good see the kids out and about, not many kids fishing anymore. I like the hat, not necessarily an IH fan it is just to see something beside Green and Yellow sometimes

Fantastic job on getting your kids outside. So many if them are caught up in electronic devices, TV, and stay mostly inside. You're gonna have your own fishing team.
Life at its simplest and finest! Enjoy and thanks for sharing.. :)
Not that soon. I'm guessing it'll be a good 3 or 4 years before he's ready for solo action.
The nap is key!! My son still wont handle the fish. He has touched them but nothing more. Its always a great time with the kids and it makes catching little bream all day fun.

Nice looking kids; your wife must be gorgeous... :D

I don't know if you can ever enjoy anything more than firsts with one of your kids. First step, word, fish. Of course one of these days it will be drive, date, dorm... It goes by fast. This looked like an awesome day.

Andy,
It wasn't all fun and games. Stepping on rods, stomping in the mud, throwing sticks, dodging poison ivy and fire ant hills. The photos don't capture all the "fun", but you're right I won't forget the firsts and I hope these experiences stick in their minds.

I just booked a trip to Kerr Scott in mid June with my brother. We're taking our boys camping and fishing. We're going to give Warrior Creek a try. I've never been to that camping area (always go to Bandit's Roost) and I'm really looking forward to it.
