Hey guys I'm looking for some tips for fishing Dawson Creek area on the Neuse. It looks like a nice ramp for kayaking as the ramp is close to the creek mouth vs a 2-4 mile paddles for others. Would you advise trying inside the creek for flounder or the shore of the main river? Anyone fish there regularly?

I've fished Dawson for some time and have had some success, especially in the fall. I like to fish the bridge, the docks, and the shore line with needle rush growing on it. Look for four feet of water near the shore. I usually troll and cast until I find them and then cast. Top waters, grubs, and mirror lures work well. Do not hesitate to use live bait. The fish in Dawson love little shad.

It is a nice ramp for kayaking and relatively protected. Be mindful of the wind in the summer though as paddling against a strong S-SW wind there sucks. Been there done that. Also when you are driving down a dirt road through a field...dont worry you are on the way to the ramp and not lost.
