Hey everyone,
I live in Fayetteville and the wife and I enjoy bank fishing for bass. We spend most of our time at the lakes on Ft Bragg but are wanting to day trip around the Apex/Raleigh area. Thinking of trying the banks at Harris around the County Park or possibly Umstead Park or Lake Benson. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you and I have enjoyed reading the posts here!

I got nothing for you up in the RDU area, but will throw out what I think is a good idea for bank fishing right now. Go to Goldsboro/Kinston, or Rocky Mount/Tarboro or Weldon. Bank fish for Shad, they are running now and will be for another six weeks or so. Lots of fun, lots of fight on light tackle, and you will find some great BBQ to eat while taking a lunch break. Stop by EZ Bait & Tackle on US117 south of Goldsboro and tell them you need some Shad rigs. Have fun (whatever you choose to do). OH

You had me at BBQ. That sounds like a fun day for sure. I've never fished for shad but always willing to try something new. Thanks for the ideas, Old Hunter!

Go read Mack's post for the Shad: Best Places to Shad Fish
For the BBQ (I ain't fool enough to say which one is best!) Parkers - Wilson, Gardners - Rocky Mount, Ralphs - Weldon, McCalls or Wilbur's - Goldsboro, B's - Greenville, King's - Kinston. Some are better than others, but all are good and authentic eastern NC chopped pork BBQ.
