Hit the Deep this morning for about 45 minutes and found several of these guys crashing shoals and shallow structure. Black and blue chatterbait did the job.

Loving this Lews High Speed Speed Spin and SS Carbon combo!

That one there seems to have more blotches than normal. All of them colored like him?

That's what I was thinking when you originally posted the pic...
Yes all of them out of this stretch have that same look

Nice way to start the day! I'm always impressed by how many fish there are in the Deep River. As many mills as there were on it and considering the population density it travels through it fishes exceptionally well.

Looks like the color of health to me. Had some in-laws that fished the Deep regularly near Glendon-Carbonton before they broke dams to aid an endangered mussel. They always brought home healthy sized bream and crappie. Is it still navigable by 14' jon?
There are several stretches up this way you could if you wanted to. I wade and canoe it.

Hey Gene, I fish the Deep near Randleman all the time. Had some great days out there for sure. We should meet up and fish sometime.

These were just a few from Sunday afternoon...

Sure thing! I have fished that piece of river before. Matter of fact my best deep river fish came from that same spot as your last pic, bout a 19 inch 3.5 pounder.

Let me know when is good for you, I'm pretty flexible. I've only fished from the park up past the bridge and around the bend a little ways, to where an old dam used to be. Haven't been south much at all... Just a few spots here and there. I'd love to explore some more spots.
Pm sent

I usually start wading when the weather gets more comfortable standing in the creek than standing on a boat - we're getting real close looking at the weather for this week. My biggest roadblock is that I am lucky to fish one day a week and that is always on the weekned. I also think a float down the river would be very interesting.

If I could only figure out how get out of working I could fish more!

Story of my life!

I think that would be fun. If there is a little mini M&G going on let me know, I don't yet have a canoe but I am very comfortable in one.

Just don't let Gene tell you that chatterbaits don't hang up on cover. It'll be all over but the retrieval after that! (it's been too long since I could poke you in ribs, Gene, sorry!)
