RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 28) - Disabled hunters can enjoy a special hunting opportunity at Camp Lejeune this November.
Presented jointly by the U.S. Marine Corps and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, the hunt will be open to 15 mobility-impaired people drawn from a pool of applicants. For purposes of this event, "mobility-impaired" is defined as either confinement to a wheelchair, amputation of one or both legs or arms or permanently requiring the use of mechanical aids such as a walker or braces to walk.
The hunt will take place Saturday, Nov. 12, on 3,000 acres of the Marine base in Onslow County. Participants are required to attend a base registration, safety talk and scouting of hunt locations on Friday, Nov. 11.
Only crossbows and shotguns with slugs will be allowed. Participants must wear both a blaze-orange cap and vest.
Applications are due Oct. 13. Proof of disability and a hunting license must be submitted with the application. For application information, or for more details about the hunt, call Susie Fish of the Wildlife Commission at (919) 707-0059.
