Eno Quarry

I have been thinking about trying to do some fishing in the quarry in the winter, while the place is nice and quiet. Does anybody ever fish here? Are there any big bass in there?

I had a chance to walk around it and check it out. Some nice clear areas to cast from, but no rod and reel today.

It's just a huge bowl nearly 60' deep -- steep banks and very little shallow water, perhaps some at the NW (?) corner. There are bass in it, but it's hard to fish. If you could get a yak in it w/a sonar you could perhaps find suspended fish and target them by depth like some do at Shearon-Harris (i.e., present lures vertically). But it's just too far to get a yak in there, I think -- not even sure you'd be allowed to pull a cart on the trail (bikes not allowed on trail, I recall). Would love to hear any results -- certainly a beautiful place to fish. Gets crowded with swimmers in warmer weather. FYI -- joel

I would imagine the fish would be mostly near the edges? I imagine there isnt much structure to far out. I was thinking if I worked my way around I would eventually find something. Does that make sense?
Hopefully I will get a chance this weekend to give it a go.
Where's that located??
You can access it through the cabe land trails in the eno river state park. if you google "eno quarry" it will come up. its about a mile or so from the parking lot
I swim a lot there in the summer. Free diving under rock ledges we have come across bass under ledges. Not sure where they may be in the winter but probably a good start. Never fished it because I really only go to swim and the bass ive seen werent worth a lot of effort. There are lots of fish in the quarry though.

I use to fish it before it was a park, bass are hard to catch but texas rig worms on light line worked for me. Biggest i caught there was about 6lb. Floating worms also worked for me.

I fished it in my kayak with a fishin' buddy depth finder a few years ago. (LOOOONG portage) Very clear water, of course. Mostly small bass around the edges but I caught one about 4 lb. too. It's not as deep as I thought and have heard, but it has deep spots. Fish turned off immediately when someone got in the lake to swim, even on the far side! I've heard the Eno RIVER around there and further downstream has some good bass.

Its not a deep as i was told. A friend and experienced scuba diver lugged his equipment out with us one day and walked the entire quarry. The side opposite the river ranges 20-30 feet to shallow and the other side is a bit deeper. It is sloped of course being a quarry

Years ago we were diving off the cliffs and a couple in a blow up dingy had a snake swim under them and it was longer than the dingy. Since it was moving up from the deep we mentioned it to them....big mistake...the girl nearly capsized the boat.
