Hello Folks,
A few months ago my family spent a week at N. Topsail. I'd never fished at the coast before, so I gave it a try on borrowed gear, and had a blast. Caught a small flounder and some little silver fish with yellow fins in the surf on shrimp with a three hook rig.
For Christmas I was given a Penn 450SSg, a Big Water Ugly Stick (BWS 1100 7'0", Medium Action, 10-25lb line), and some 15lb Spiderwire Ultracast fluorocarbon line. What else do I need for starters? I plan to make some day trips from Durham to same area, and want to keep it simple for starters. Catching something would be great, but I'm also looking at this as an activity to get some time by myself and do some thinking on the beach.
I forget the name of the pier, but would like to give that a try as well, assuming I can learn the do's and don'ts and not annoy anyone.
I'm sure that there's a lot of info on this topic here, but considering that I know next to nothing, I'm hoping one of you folks might have a short idiot-proof list I might start with.
Thanks All.
