What is a good general rule of thumb for locating crappie in the summer time on a small lake?

Fish on the bottom around brush piles 10-20 feet deep. Drop your jig to the bottom away from the brush, raise about 2 feet and work the jig towards the brush pile. The runts will be higher up in the brush.

Gulp! Minnows (1") and Bobby Garlands baby shad work great for crappie. Smelt for the Gulp and blue ice/thread fin shad for the Bobby Garlands are the colors I've done well with. Everyone has their favorites and I'm sure they all work from time to time....
