Took the family down to Oriental for some big drum. We fished till the storms ran us off the water Monday afternoon. This was our first time trying this spot and first attempt at big drum. We zeroed on drum, caught 2 rays and several bluefish all on cutbait. We threw mullet and menhaden and done some popping corks. Spoke to a few guides who said that all the rain in the last month had them messed up or not there. We had a blast in a pretty place......maybe just a little early though. With jobs and school, that was our only chance to go. I will try it again next year for sure.

You don't know till you try. Hard to pinpoint fish in a one day or so excursion especially if this is your first time there. Maybe next trip the fish will cooperate. Could be if you had moved to another area you could have scored, never can tell.

I usually go for 2 1/2 days and it usually takes me two days to figure them out.
