Hello,
I'm new to the site and a novice fisherman with a 14 year old son who has definately caught the fishing bug. The problem is trying to get him the appropriate instruction so that he can have greater success. Are there any places in the Durham area that teach kids some of the basics about freshwater fishing? Such as, areas of the lake to fish, correct gear to use, proper technique depending on conditions, etc....If you know of any such resources, I'd appreciate you passing on the infomration. Thanks.

Lots of excellent opportunities at the site backlash posted - go to events and search on NC. Nothing in Durham over the next month, but some that aren't too far of a drive.

Fayetteville has the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center, which looks like an amazing teaching facility. Here's a news release from the opening: http://www.ncwildlife.org/news_stories/pg00_NewsRelease/pg00_apr05_14.htm
There's a father's day event coming up that you might look into.

I don't know of anything like that here in the Triangle. There is a Durham Wildlife Club that seems to be more geared toward shooting, but does have a lake and a fishing-only membership. Perhaps they offer some teaching days?

Something for the regulars to chew on: NCangler.com fishing expos at a couple of different sites around the state? just a thought...
