Going up to avon in a couple weeks to visit family coming down. How's the fishing there? Any good tackle shops in the area to check out? Should I bring the kayak to fish sound side?

As you head south (almost to Buxton) there are two little sand roads that lead back to the sound. The first one (curvy) has always produced better for me. The second is a straight shot and easier to navigate but I have had less luck there. Fish the grass and the banks, holes, etc. drag a C-rig or Pop -n- Cork behind you while you cast Gulp! or mullets. usually lots of bait as well. Looks kind of featureless at first glance but there are drops, banks, grass beds, etc here and there. Usually pretty quiet back there too. rarely have company. Frank n Frans is a big Yes from me too. Or Dillons or Red Drum Tackle in Buxton.

Thanks again for all the advice. We went down to Frisco today and spent most of the day there. Was pretty slow until a school of bait came by just past the breakers. Pulled a few blues and a spanish from there. Came back to the house in Avon and fished BTB in the kayak for about an hour. Caught a large mullet and a blue runner (first for me). Overall a good day.

Stopped at frank and Frans. Good folks there.
