A buddy of mine sends me the Fisherman's Post fishing report via email. For the Swansboro area, two guides - Hall 'Em In Charters and The Reel Outdoors - are reporting that anglers are catching good numbers of sizeable trout in the White Oak River. Now, this is nothing unusual in November, but I'm not used to seeing that kind of report in August. Does anybody know if this is in the lower river near the ICW, or middle river area? I am fairly certain it is not the upper river yet.
I have seen a lot of boats just upriver from the 24 bridge, to the left headed upstream. I wonder if they're catching trout there (usually I figure they are bottom fishing for croaker, etc.). Not looking for specific spots, just a general idea.
Trout will hang in the lower estuaries until water dips into the 60's and then they will begin moving upriver. Target oyster beds, grass islands, and the ledges around them. Topwaters and soft plastics.
caught them in the white oak sat and sunday bite was done by 7:30 for trout. We managed a one man limit most were around the 12 to 13 inch range. Drum played until 11 though.
