The best one I know is Topsail Beach. You're only a couple of hrs away! You 've got the Neuse and the Black rivers close by. I was thinking there was a small dam just above 301 before you get into Smithfield, it's been many yrs.ago but but they used to tell me that had some good bass in it. Holt's lake is the name of it but I'm not up to date on the fishing there.
you could go down 301 to rhodes pond. not sure if anything is hitting out there or not. haven't been in a while. Could go down to erwin also to the cape fear. There's a public access place there I believe off of 217.
Rhodes Pond on 301 is the only place that I know in that area as well. There was a lake along hwy 96 near Selma that I have passed by and I wonder how the fishing there would be.
Tucker Lake is one of those fancy swimm'n holes just off of Hwy 40. You can see it from the interstate. It has a man made beach, slide, paddle boats and all that good stuff. I don't know if you can fish there or not.
