I joined NC angler's fishing forums in order to learn more about fishing for specks, and also because I just bought a "fishing camp" in Hobucken, NC at Hobucken Marina. As a child and young adult I did a lot of speck fishing with my dad. I truly enjoy fishing for specks. I now want to share my love for speck fishing with my boys, and with my husband (he is from Vermont an only has experience with fresh water trout fishing and bass fishing). I also enjoy kayaking and I wanted to learn more about fishing in one. I have done just a bit of fishing in one, but not enough to actually catch yet. I want to learn how to outfit my kayak for fishing as well and am looking for advice. We are just off Jones Bay and only 1/2 a mile from the ICW. Past experince fishing locations: Vandemere Creek, Campbell's Creek, Belhaven, Swan Quarter, Hobucken, and Harker's Island. I am looking forward to being a member of this forum and want you all to know this is my very first forum experience (I hope I do a good job).

Angela, welcome to NC Angler! I think you will find a pretty good group of folks here. Most of our members get about as much out of helping their fellow anglers as they do the fishing itself. You'll find that most of the speck fishermen on here will help you anyway the can. Of course their favorite honey holes might be closely guarded secrets. We will try to help you on outfitting your kayak also. Off to work now. Hope to hear from you soon. good luck with your new home. AL

Angela--- Wecome to the site. I'm on the other side of the sound in Atlantic. Its been a great fall season for specks. I do a lot of speck fishing from my kayak using ultra light spinning and fly-- great sport. Hope to provide some pics of my rig -- after fishing season slacks off.

Regards, Forrest

I just read your post. Congrats on the camp. If you're interested in working with a guide please feel free to contact me. The fishing is excellent in the area and there is much need to expand the services available to recreational anglers. We currently catching plenty of specks and puppy drum in the area and the striper fishing has been good up river towards New Bern and should be that way on the PAmlico river as well. Hope to hear from you.
