I always stay at the Riggings which is the last condo before you go into the fort.
If you like fishing around there it may be some investment up front as far as cost per night through a realtor but you meet and talk to people while there. You wind up with names of owners who will rent.

Off season I have a deal at 75 a night through an owner. Over flow parking across the street.
I was just down for a week and we parked 2 vehicles across the road in the last 2 spaces. We kept big coolers full of beer and ice between the vehicles all week. Nobody even bothered a cold beer. Some of the best fishing on the island is right there out the back door.

Sounds real good to me. I will have see if I can find a realtor that handles rentals there.
I have stayed in Carolina Beach at a MicroTel couple times. I parked my kayak/trailer there no problem. The have a fish cleaning table and hose out back too! From CB you can go to Fort Fisher, Snows Cut, the dredge pond on the river, piers, surf, ect.

Always Carolina Beach State Park for a little camping. Park right at your campsite, boat ramp just a short drive in the park.
