Fort Fisher is a State park (old civil war fort) located just south of Carolina Beach on Pleasure Island. The east side is the Atlantic ocean, the west side is the Cape Fear River. Snow's cut is north of there a few miles and connects the river to the sound.

There is a boat ramp under the bridge at Snow's Cut. You can boat in the river but like anywhere else on the coast, you should get a chart and check with the locals to learn your way around the area.

At low tide the water is very shallow. I have seen people have to get out of their boats at the ramp and pull them to deep enough water so they can use the motor. There are lots of sandbars and oysterbeds and stuff so you would need to be very careful in a boat if you don't know the water. The tides are also an hour or two after the tide in the Cape Fear river. Hopefully someone with a boat can chime in as I only kayak the area.

FF is very shallow and you see a lot of dirt rooster tails thrown right out of the ramp. It would be a longer trip but you could leave from the ramp at CB and come in from the Bald Head Island side. There is some good fishing down there in that part of FF. It's a little deeper in some areas but once you run up into Buzzards Bay you'll need something that will draft 4 or 5 inches.
Why would you want to fish the inside of Fort Fisher?
just looking another place to fish.............chris

Sightfishing reds and sometimes blackies and trout. Watch out for that mud, :eek:I hear it is waist deep in places!
This area is loaded with fish, and shallow water. Go at high tide until you learn it. Good luck and BE CAREFUL!
