At low tide the water is very shallow. I have seen people have to get out of their boats at the ramp and pull them to deep enough water so they can use the motor. There are lots of sandbars and oysterbeds and stuff so you would need to be very careful in a boat if you don't know the water. The tides are also an hour or two after the tide in the Cape Fear river. Hopefully someone with a boat can chime in as I only kayak the area.
