I havent fished downeast much but have heard of people catching saltwater fish while they are bass fishing. Fishing on the James, Chickahominy and Potomac rivers in VA I have seen crabs and mullet in areas that I caught bass.

The James river is Tidal up to downtown richmond. Basically the line is beneath the I-95 bridg (maybe Manchester bridge less than a mile up river. from he 95 bridge.) You can catch LM bass(Bass Masters had championship there once). You can run into small sharks, LMbass, Spotted Bass, Stripers, Blue Crabs, BIG cats, croaker and flounder. The salts stuff more in summer whn lower river water flow. Same for appomattox river in petersburg also right below 95 bridge and east.
