Is this ("Fishing for Dummies") for real?

Crummy -- I actually bought one of those books -- the KISS book, not the Dummies book -- when I got started fishing. Note of course that I got started as an adult -- I was not raised with a rod in my hand. I found it helpful as a newbie -- it provides guidance to buying your first set of gear, it explains the basics of "reading the water" and how to "hunt" for the fish rather than just sitting back and waiting for something to swim by. Also shows you a manageable number of knots to learn for starters, and explains when to use each.

Even in fields in which I've got much better experience, I sometimes find those books helpful -- I often find little "gems" that I had not known of before.
