I'm trying to see if there is any interest in a M&G on Lake Tillery, most likely at Morrow Mountain State Park Group camp sites. Morrow Mountain State park is located about 20 minutes from Ablemarle, NC, not far from HWY 24/27 or US 52.

Bank fishing, kayak/canoe fishing, and motor boat fishing is available. I suspect we can find someone willing to lead a day paddle along the Uhwarrie River (H2ohhh? Fish_Fiend?) , which joins the Yadkin within the park boundaries. The Uhwarrie is famous for it's beauty and is known to give up small mouth bass. Tillery is known for catfish, but has a fair amount of LMB and stripers in it.

The group camping site is tent only, with a modern and usually clean bath house and water available. It's within a state park, so of course that means that alcohol is a no-no.

Issue 1: I am not sure trailers can be easilly brought to the group camping site. There is public parking for trailers in the lot by the boat launch, but it's a half mile from the camp sites.

Issue 2: Gates close at dusk. No entrance or exit from the park after that time.

The weekend of Sept 19-21 has 5 of the 6 group sites open. Each costs $45 per nite, and can sleep up to 35 people. I'm willing to donate the cost of one group site, assuming that we can pull this off. If we need a second one, we'll figure it out.

Interested? Discussion? Too close to the M&G at Bay River?

If there is interest, we'll do a separate thread for signups, etc after I book the group site.

Another option would be the Arrowhead Campground within the Uwarrie National Forest.... It has fishing and a boat launch, but I don't have personal experience camping there.... Anyone else know about it?

Let's see what we have in other interest.... I expected a little more replies, but this might not be to the taste of many of our guys. I was thinking that a trip to the Yadkin chain in the early fall would be interesting.

With 2 yeses and 2 maybe's, we'll try this again another time.

Maybe early next summer, before the salt water action peaks.

Thanks all....

Review I did for another site of Arrowhead after a trip there two years ago over labor day weekend:

Arrowhead CG is app. 20 years old and has 48 sites with 32 having electric. It is located in the very beautiful Uwharrie National Forest and mountains. This particular CG is officially not on the lake but some of the sites have a view of the lake. (Badin Lake CG nearby is right on the water.) The sites tend to be fairly close together, some very close like site 26 and 27. Sites 27 and 29 are double sites. Some of the sites are short and have slopes. No water connections at any site, so stop on your way in at the dump station and fill your water tank. There are 5 unthreaded potable water sites throughout the CG. The bathhouse is located across from sites 43-45 more or less at the front of the CG. The bathhouse was less then clean the weekend of 8/31-9/3/12. Toilets were without toilet paper. No ventilation in the bathhouse and it gets very hot and steamy in there. Best sites IMO are 42, 41, 37, 35 and 31. Definitely did not like sites 25 or 24 if someone is in 25.

There are ample recreational activities. Badin Lake and Lake Tillery provide some excellent bass, striped bass, white bass, crappie and catfishing. The forest is also home to some great deer hunting. This NF is very popular with OHV users and Horseowners. There is another campground specifically for horses(Canebrake Horse Camp) and also another for OHV folks, however a lot of them use Arrowhead also. Less than 45 minutes away is the NC Zoo at Asheboro and also Seagrove Pottery. This area is in the heart of NASCAR Country and numerous race teams and museums are within an hour drive including The King's Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.
