Good spots close to FT Fisher?

1573 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  950monster
We are staying on the Airforce rec center at Ft Fisher. Are there any spots that we should focus on to catch fish that anyone on the forum can think of? I will send a report of the trip after we get back.

Do you have / can you rent or borrow a boat of any sort? The Basin is a great place for anything with a shallow draft - canoes and kayaks do great, ya just gotta consider the tidal currents and winds.

If you're foot-bound, then some folks walk out on the jetty to the right of the boat ramp... Honestly, I don't know how stable those rocks are, so please be careful. I do know that at high tide, some of the breaks will be too big to walk across, so either plan to stay on Zeke's Island, or plan to be back before the tide crests.

If you've got a boat, you can get to lots and lots of places.

Monster: According to your profile, you are a kayaker? Ft Fisher is a great place to fish for reds. Look it up on Google Maps. The area south of (behind, looking from the boatramp) Zeke's Island has always been good for me for reds. There are lots of little islands and oyster bars in there that frequently hold fish. Good Luck! when you going?
We are planning on getting down to Fisher Sat afternoon and fishing then and on Sunday we are using YAKs it was probable the best thing I have bought for fishing in 10 years. What are some typical baits for REDs?

SW GULP! on a 1/4 oz jighead, redfish magic spinners. Or for bait, use fresh shrimp or mullet.

Hey man if the rec center is open they rent canoes and stuff. You didn't say whether you had
a boat or not. Fishing from the pier is good at time. Make sure you have a casting net for fresh bait
or the man standing next to you will be bringing em in and you don't have bait.

Check the pic, there is a boat ramp right on Ft Fisher for use by the military. From the pier straigh to the right and left you will see some short pillings on low tide at high tide they are under water or almost. Plenty of fish there or go straight out to the big island to the right going out.

Check highlites.
