Great Day at North Topsail Beach

Had a great day fishing North Topsail yesterday. We drove out on the north end at low tide and fished from 4 to 8. Main catch was flounder with a few spot, croaker, and pin fish mixed in. We were using shrimp, squid, and finger mullet. Most fish were caught on standard 2 hook bottom rigs. Only one flounder was keeper sized while the others were between 12 and 14 inches. Weather was almost perfect, completely overcast with a few sprinkles here and there. Total between 3 anglers was around 40 fish, with about 20 being flounder. This was our first time there so we were excited with the # of flounder. Also enjoyed watching a few folks get stuck in the sand. Unfortunately none of us thought to take any pictures of the catch. We will definitely be going back.

It was a good weekend I caught a ton of mullet and spot Saturday night from 8-11.Kept 13 fall sized mullet. The rest were pier size.Caught 5 sharks and lots of seaweed.
Is it free to drive on the sand there?
It is. It's not a very large portion of beach. It faces the inlet. There are stop signs that keep you off of the ocean side. If I had to guess it is about 400-500 yards long. The police did show up and tell one guy to move his vehicle, he was apparently "out of bounds". The current is very strong there as well. I was using 3 oz pyramid weights and it was still pushing it out. A guy with me had a 3 oz egg sinker and a 3 oz pyramid sinker on his Carolina rig and it was still pushing it out.

ncrabbit, I was in the Blue S10 crew cab with the tent over the bed. Idk if you saw us. We left around 8:30. Was there any size to the sharks you caught? We were throwing Pinfish on the Carolina rigs trying to catch some but they kept getting eaten by what I am assuming were crabs. We'd pull them up to check the bait and they would be missing chunks.

Dang i was there then and it rained Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Didn't really get to fish until mid to later in the week. We never could get anything to bite at the New River Inlet, but I did get a nice black Drum and decent Flounder at a public access off New River rd around mile marker 19 (Nice hole there). Also caught some fish at the Seaview Pier. Would've had more flounder but they dont count if the kick off in the wash :(...
