Richard and I met at the water this morning and got to work. The both of us landed rainbows and brookies until we lost count. We had quite a few come unglued on the retrieve as well (more of those for myself). A dropper rig (egg pattern, gold ribbed hare's ear nymph) caught the majority of the fish with the black streamer (wooly bugger) coming in a close second.

I had an absolute blast today and can't wait to hit it again. I thoroughly enjoyed learning and watching today while implementing these skill sets. If you need anything fly fishing/kayaking/back packing related visit Carolina Mtn Sports!

Richard: I still think you should've taken the cat.

I'm afraid it's irreversible at this point. I do wish I would've pursued fly fishing a long time ago. Better late than never.
Wait until you start fishing those isolated wild trout streams without a soul in sight and you see a wild trout shoot out of nowhere to inhale your dry after a perfect drift. I have the sickness also. Nice fish!

I caught a wild brown several days ago that literally "popped" the surface of the water the very split second my fly landed.

Furthermore, I had a brook jump completely out of the water today after my fly after I lifted it out of the water.

I can't believe you've been fly fishing less than a month. Well done! When I started, I would fish hard for nine plus hours and catch two fish, and be happy about it. Come to think of it, I've had several low single digit days this year, including two skunk days, but was still happy to be out. You've got the bug bad! Hopefully you have understanding family. :D

I've been fly fishing for a week and a half. Fortunately, the family has been accustomed to this behavior for quite sometime now.

Well, I'm angry about it and jealous as well. I learred to fly fish and tie flies when I was 62 yo, and had just retired. Too me a year to get the hang of fly casting, and my flies weren't much better. I am 67 yo now. If you've only been fly fishing for 1 1/2 weeks, you'll probably be on TV, right beside Lefty Kreh, in lass than 2 more months. Angry, you bet I am. Great job on your catch, and it had to be a pleasure fishing with Richard.

Nice.

Looks like I'll go this year without getting on a DH stream even once. And I'm losing my territory in East TN which means even less chances to get on Mtn water...

small violin anyone?
That sucks dude. Might have to put a few miles on your vehicle to make it happen. Of course it wouldn't be trout but you can always chase something different if need be.

I am back to civilization and can respond.... It was an excellent day on the water with Wademaster. A little dingy in the lower section but more clear in the upper part....but fish were cooperative in each...hitting nymphs and wooly buggers. Fortunately, the fish did not realize it was a holiday weekend and they were "still on the job." Wademaster has really picked up on this fly fishing...casting and techniques. Always fun to watch someone pick up the skills so quickly...especially with nymphing....split shot...indicators...drifts...mending etc....and catching! Well done indeed! And, although a holiday weekend, the number of anglers was surprisingly low...sweet.

Once again, I had a blast! Can't wait to pick my fly outfit up! I'm game to do it again anytime you're ready!

Didn't realize you were into fly fishing. Looks like you have taken to it well. Good job on the trout.
I just picked it up. Under 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love it! I know the fish are celebrating happily at the places I used to fish with spinning gear. I'll be back. Just with a different weapon.
