Thinking about heading out to Harris lake tomorrow, Monday afternoon in my kayak. Where does everyone launch from. I'll be targeting bass hopefully on top water. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nick, for the past week, I have been launching from Hollermans Rd Bridge. I pull off the road as on the left as soon as I pass over the bridge. There is a hill you must carry or walk your kayak down and launch from the shore. Paddle across the lake and start fishing the weedlines, early in the morning before light is best. If you can't get down that hill then you can launch from the Harris county park and head under the bridge staying on the left but they don't open until 0800. Your final choice would be at Bartley Hollerman Rd Boat launch and you could head under the bridge to fish the weedlines. Another option would be to put in at the south boat ramp, cross point rd launch and try the coves on the left and you head north up the reservoir.
Be sure to go to the kayak fishing page and do a search, there's a wealth of knowledge there. Read this link, there are pics of what you'll run into going down the hill at the bridge. http://www.ncangler.com/forums/threads/61045-sharon-harris/page2

When do you plan on going? Good luck.

Just read that post. I have a wilderness systems tarpon 140 not so sure I'll make it back up that hill after. It's 68lbs empty. And I just had hernia surgery a month and a half ago still recovering. I think I'll make the paddle. Any suggestions on baits for a late afternoon trip.

So far, with my schedule, I've only been out there for the mornings since I have to be back home by the time school lets out to pick up the kids. I don't see why the same techniques wouldn't work - weightless lizard, senko, trick worm in green pumpkin or junebug. Try a spinnerbait or chatterbait along the weedlines. Pop-R's, chug bug or zara spooks for topwater - I prefer shad or baby bass colors. I don't do buzzbaits but I may try them this year and frogs in the lilypads. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Any suggestions on baits for a late afternoon trip.
I've bass fished Harris a couple times over the years, always in the morning. No experience with late afternoon late/post spawn there, but I think I'd go with swimbaits, swimming worms, jigs, chatterbaits along the edges of the weeds - slow & steady. Maybe drop big senkos into the holes in the pads. If I had shade or heavy cloud cover I might stick with those morning topwater tactics in the pads.

Curious about other opinions & recent experiences, and to hear how you do.

Be safe - no need to go back in for repairs!

Well guys I have a good friend who called and asked for some help around the house. I don't usually have time like this during the day so I went and helped him. Ended up power washing for 5hrs. I was pretty beat and didn't end till around 5. He's gotten some bad news about his wife's health and asked if I'd like to get away and go fishing with him to take his mind off things. So we went to a pond at a buddy's house. Ended up catching 13 small bass on crankbaits and most on junebug char lizard they were killing it. Saw some good fish but the big ones wouldn't hit anything. I threw everything I had at them. Fished my frog hard and only had a few hits just to small to hook em. All in all a good day. Just really want to get out to Harris and try my luck. Maybe we could get a trip together and a few of us head out together?
