Cape Hatteras Recreational Access Update Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) has made two recent announcements that recreational anglers should be aware of. First, the good news: the Seashore will fast track several off road vehicle (ORV) and pedestrian access projects. These include four new ORV ramps, additional parking, and a new unpaved interdunal road. Second, the uncertain future: an environmental assessment to review wildlife protection buffers and corridors for public access. While an improvement over existing regulations, the new plan falls short in a number of areas. Park Superintendent David Hallac will hold five public meetings to review the proposed changes. Help strengthen the position of public access for recreational use by attending a meeting in your area. Your input is critical to the goal of achieving more reasonable pedestrian and ORV access within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area.
