After my family's boat wreck back in October, I was afraid my dad was finished with boating but I just saw pictures of the latest addition to the family. She's a 23' Sunbird CC with a 225 Johnson named "Reel Salty". Although I haven't seen her in person, I can't wait to make that right turn at Lockwoods Folley and head offshore.
If the weather does as forcasted, I hope to get her wet Friday morning. Right now NOAA is predicting the sea to calm down Thursday night and be 2 to 3 by Friday. Pop and I are leaving here as soon as I get off work Thursday and the plan is to cross the breakers Friday morning.
Keep your fingers crossed that the wind lays down, the sea flattens out, and the fish are big and hungry.
Thanks TA and same to you. Since this will be Pop's first trip out since the wreck, we'll probably stay in pretty close at least for a while. Hopefully we'll at least make it to AR 420 but I'm just proud he's willing to give it another try.
Well, the weather man was pretty much on target for Friday. We finally got the boat in the water around 11 am. (Dad had a long list of things to do before we put her in) We headed out of Lockwoods Folly and the sea was almost flat. We played arond near the sea buoy for a while, getting used to the boat and the electronics then headed to AR 440 for a little bottom fishing. About 2 dozen Black Bass with the largest being about 11 inches later, the sea was starting to kick up a little bit to maybe 3 ft so we pulled anchor and headed back in. The Reel Salty handled 3' sea with NO problems. Back at the landing, I'm sure we provided a little comic relief as we tried to load her on the trailer. It took several trys to get her straight but finally the bow was against the chock and the truck pulled her out without even slipping a tire.
Even though the fish were all to small to keep, we had a GREAT day on the sea!!
Saturday the sea had kicked up as predicted so we spent all day washing and polishing. I think Pop really likes this boat alot now and I'm certain I do. I can't wait for the chance to get back down there and do it again.
Hey Dave, spend all the time you can fishing with your dad, i wish mine was still around so i could share a day of fishing with him. I'm glad you all had a good day on the salty!..Chris
