Is this area all fly fishing? Or can I get away with my spinning tackle? Any tips/suggestions for areas are welcome.

You can use spinning tackle.

What do you want to catch? Bass, trout?

Spring Creek in Hot Springs is stocked with trout during the spring and there might be some holdover trout.

There is a recreation area on the French Broad River called Murray Branch. You can look it up.

Its a decent spot to catch bass, rock bass and the occasional walleye.

I'd bring lures and baits to target bass and trout.

Many of the same spinners and plastics will catch both.

French Broad for smallmouth

No luck this time. Guy beside me did snag about a 2ft Walleye from the French Broad in Hot Springs. I was surprised to see one there.

There are a lot of them in that stretch. Some big ones too.
