Hopefully some of you can offer me some guidance. I am planning a trip to Kerr Lake next spring for a couple of weeks of fishing with an old friend. As I am traveling from Ohio, I would like to set the schedule to hit the aggressive pre-spawn Bass bite. Can anyone advise me, given average spring weather, when do the Bass & Crappie typically go into spawn on Kerr?

Thanks very much for any help and advise you can offer me....its a long drive and we would like to hedge our bets by pulling in during the best possible times.

Hey lunder, I've had lousy results with pre-spawn and spawn time bass fishing here in central NC. Doesn't seem to pick up for me until well into May. Must be something I don't understand that other folks do... I can't speak directly to Kerr, but I would say that they start spawning by mid-April, depending on what kind of spring we're having. Anybody else know better?

PS - what part of Ohio are you coming in from? I've done that I-77 trip at least 3 times a year for the last 15 to visit in-laws in & around Mansfield.

Depends on rainfall, winds moon phase and the presence of the baitfish. The bait get really active in mid May because of the Mayfly hatch. That really seems to trigger the bite in central/eastern NC. April rains often keep the water dirty and levels everchanging making dormant fish slow to "come around". If we get a calm, drier April, the bite starts earlier. These are just my observations and opinions...well, you know what they say about opinions...LOL!!
