Hello all, i apologize if I am on wrong area of this site, but I will post anyway with regards. My family and I are arriving in Holden beach on Saturday and staying a week. I have rented a house on the beach near the bridge that comes off the mainland. I am looking to do some fishing and would appreciate any local advice. I am a Farmer and Rancher from Kansas and obviously as far away from that find of fishing as you can get. My experience consists of farms pond, rivers, reservoirs etc. I have shipped some fishing poles ahead but have no clue on what kind of tackle or bait to use and what I am even going to fish for. my plan is to go find a local marina and ask for some guidance. Any help/comments would be appreciated, thanks

Not info specific to Holden Beach as I have never fished there but your typical two hook bottom rig with 2-4 oz pyramid sinker should work. Also recommend Tommy Farmer's River Rig especially if you want to catch sea mullet and pompano. Fresh shrimp, sand fleas, finger mullet, fiddler crabs, squid all are good choices of bait and will catch different species of fish. Find an area bait and tackle shop like Tex's Tackle, Island Tackle, Dutchmen's Creek or Ocean Isle Fishing Center. Make sure you get a fishing license.

You could walk the surf dragging minnows on a flounder/carolina rig in the trough between the beach and first sandbar or curly tailed grubs on jig heads and possibly pick up some flounder. Do not try to lip grip a flounder or a bluefish
if you catch one, those teeth will hurt!
