Here is a picture of one of the many nice smallies that were caught on a float trip on the Holston River yesterday. The river was really good. As my good friend Don would say "Ain't smallies grand"
Nice smallie! Question for ya???? Are you floating in a raft, pontoon, jon boat or what?? I know it's some big water and was wondering what people are using to float it?
Thanks Randy! I've been rowing an oar frame raft for 10 years now and wouldn't trade it for the world! Been thinking about getting a jet john boat but need more water to fish with it. We have a few river here in WNC that will support one but not many. I've fished the Holston a few years back over near Kingsport and that's some big water. My home waters are the Nolichucky and French Broad much smaller and many more rocks!!!
Great looking fish. I havent fished the holston yet. The way I always here it referd to is "The holy grail of Fly fishing". I have been told its because its of the rich sulffer base. I would love to float it oneday but all I got are waders. Have any good sugestions on where to wade it?
The areas we float don't have access for wading because it is private property. There is one little shoal near a city park that is wadeable. The rest of the water near this shoal is over your head deep. The park is called Laurel Run. It closed the end of October and will reopen the first of March.
Hope this helps.
