I caught this cat when i was very young and me and some friends were arguing over the probable length of it. What would be your guesses? Im assuming its a channel catfish or a bull head catfish. I dont know how to tell.

knowing the type of fish would really help guess its size. IMO It doesn't really look like a channel. if its a bullhead it looks like a pretty big one maybe 3lbs? They don't usually get much bigger than that. Idk, pretty hard to tell.

Man if its a bull head i really didnt know what i had at the time in terms of size. I thought it looked strange

I can remember what the fish looked like in my hands so no way it was a shovel head. Must be a bull head

Id say Flathead probably 4-5 lbs.

And to your question on the difference, channels are narrow headed, and have a forked tail, light grayish brown in color with a few spots along the sides.

I got a real big channel cat the other day. It was a big male. When they get really big thier heads turn a purple color. They look pretty cool.

Flathead. 3-5lbs. If that would've been a bullhead you would've had the state record most likely (or very close).
