tons of fresh water run off from the melt and generally crappy conditions have kept all but the hardcore home. And not many caught by them but I hear the ones they have caught have been quality fish.

I'm planning a trip Saturday, haven't been since 2/7. Longest I've gone between trips in a while. Probably gonna target some rock spots, not sure I feel right targeting trout right now.

After speaking with a Marine Police officer last Saturday and with several guides and other avid local fishermen, it seems like the creeks of the Neuse (Slocum and Hancock) took the worst hit. At this time (Thursday morning), there has been no word on closures that I'm aware of. That said, trout fishing stinks right now; lousy weather, lousy wind, lousy water. The good news is that it will improve.

I just got done standing in the rain shad fishing. 4 bumps but no hookups. Saw the fish one time. They don't like this weather either.

I am hoping this weekend will be good. The water should be warm Sunday afternoon.
This is a facebook post from one of the guides:

I got it confirmed report of hundreds of speckled trout not spikes dead in broad and Goose Creek in the Neuse River on Monday and thousands of 18 Plus its trout floating in Tucker Creek on Wednesday.
I can't understand why things aren't closed

well I know I will be one of the few but even one can make a difference. I personally will not be keeping ANY trout this spring unless they are injured beyond reason. Strictly catch and release for me. I encourage others to consider adjusting their limits as well.
