I recall in the past that white bass used to make a run in this area
in early spring-Idols Dam, Clemmons NC. Today was such a beautiful day I decided to scope the area out for a future fishing endeavor. I haven't been
there in years.

Lo and behold, on Idols Road and all areas adjacent to the railroad tracks to
the river-there are a multitude of No Parking and No tresspassing signs. Is there a legal way to get to the dam area, while being able to park a vehicle legally?

Thanks

Hey sirhibbly,

I went there today. I canoe down from Tanglewood and then hump the boat out to all those no trespassing signs and get my wife to pick me up. She hasn't left me there all night yet. Ha! Anyway, the big news is the new construction down there. The power house is gone along with all the turbines. In their place is a concrete flume with three seperate shoots. It's dangerous to say the least, and I hope everybody gives it a wide berth. Mean and dangerous backwater tow where that water comes out, I didnt even atempt to get near it. So much razor wire around it that it looks like a prison too, so walking down from the tracks is out. Anyway, the good news is there is flow again on both sides of the island, so it's kinda like it was back in the day. I caught numerous white perch, but only one small male white bass down below the island. Stunted perch have taken over just like in other lakes. Also caught some nice crappie and a few decent LM's to round out the day. Catching fish with the sun shining and snow hitting me in the face. An unusual day weather wise for sure. If you have something you can paddle hit me up with a PM. Me and my buddy from Lewisville fish the river all the time. John.

I haven't been there in years either. It was a great place to fish I tell ya what. We used to catch carp and catfish there when we went. I think the former state record flathead came from behind the dam there. I haven't been back since they put up all the fences and stuff. The next time I'm back home visiting I'd like to fish it if there's a way to get there legally. Is there a way to get there from the downstream side of the dam?

you can park on idols rd. you just have to park east of the last no parking sign. now its a good walk from there but I do it a few times a week. just walk the train tracks to the davie county side and from there you'll see paths to get down to the river. i'm not sure about the bass but the catfishing is great through there. hope this helps!
