I'll be in durham from the 19th to the 22nd. Is there any easily accessed places for me to shore fish around this area. I'll prolly only have the early evening hours to do some fishing. Anyone who wants to show me around that would be appreciated also. Not sure where I'll be staying yet as the school has not notified me of this.

R U free for lunch any day you're in town? I might be able to run out sometime.

You can fish at Crabtree Lake county park if you like, although it's the famous subject of our famous PCB cleanup.

I've heard good things about "the big lake" at Umstead State Park as well -- take 540 past the airport, head east on US 70, and enter the park a mile or two from the interstate. take that driveway all the way back, and then from the last parking lot, head down the trail on the downhill side of the parking lot. It's only a tenth of a mile from the parking lot.

Coach D,

I apologize! I have been in Norfolk, VA on business the last three days and didn't know you were coming. I am back in Durham today but I will be tied up all day Thursday and Friday. Visitors are coming to my facility. Umstead would be a good place to go as suggested by BankandSurf. There are a couple of other places to go but would take some explaining and might be time prohibitive. I will PM you with my cell # and you can call for directions.

You could swing by Walmart at Briar Creek (just west of I-540 and US-70) and pick up a tub of nightcrawlers for $2.88. Last year about this time, my son hauled in one panfish after another, just dragging the nightcrawlers across the bottom, about 8" below a split-shot.
