Hello, I am from ohio and will be visiting family in Raleigh, have heard that the rapids this time of year can be productive. Have never fished for stripers before and know very little about the river. Any information would be helpful. Visit the area a few times a year and mainly have fished Jordan Lake for crappie, would like to try something different, stripers are not a fish stocked here near Toledo so not sure what to bring either. Thanks for anyhelp.

When I hear you say river and Roanoke Rapids I am thinking of the Roanoke River and the place to go will be Weldon, which is just down the road from Roanoke Rapids on the east side of I95. In a few weeks the Striper will be there in good numbers. It's just a hair early though.

Thanks so far for the info, will be down for the martinsville race, and plan on going to wheldon apr1 or 2nd or both. Can you wade the river, stricly shore? wont have a boat.

You can fish from the shore there. - To the Left of the boat ramp. Look at that site fisherjon put up too! they put up a new report every Thursday afternoon.

There will be guides/boats around.
If you got money, they keep up with the fish.

They are catching shad now. Late April will be better for rockfish, usuallly.
