I'm very pleased to implement a new custom database for the fly-fishing enthusiasts among us (I'm a wannabe:)). Introducing the NCangler.com "Fly Ties" database. I'm still working out a couple of items on the program but registered members of the site should have access to add their Fly Ties by tomorrow. I posted a picture of one of Forrest's ties to christen the database, but I'll have to get Forrest to fill in the pertinent information once I get the member access worked out.

I'm thinking that this would be another benefit for Captains' Club and Angler Sponsor members but will leave it open to all registered members for a few days for folks to check it out.

If you are not a registered member of our site I hope you will Register NOW! Registration if free and easy.

I hope you like the NCangler.com Fly Ties! :D

The "Fly Ties" program is ready for input! :)

Okay Fly Fishermen, the "Fly Ties" program is online and should be ready for you to post your custom Fly Ties. You can post a good bit of information about each fly that you post in your database, including the fish species you target with the fly, type of fishing (stream, river, offshore, etc.), components of the fly, etc. and you can upload photos of the fly as well.

So your Fly is open. Wait, that might not have sounded right. :p

Referring to the pic of the 8 flies, the only ones that I can make reference to immediately are the top ones on the right side. They were constructed using Lefty Kreh's pattern. I will post some individual pics and instructions of some of my stuff later. The best thing for me about this program is that up to this point, I have never recorded any written procedures as to how or what I use while tying flies. I just put a hook in the vise and see where it takes me. I usually use a variety of colors of materials and different eyes. Where possible, when I post my instructions, I will try to list fly shop equivalent for materials. For what its worth, I will now record some procedures. As for my materials, they are mostly scrounged. I know how to use epoxy for heads but seldom use it anymore. I use hot glue to construct heads, attach eyes or a mixture of hot glue and play sand for weight and colors. Hot glue gun?-- for my part-- forget it--I only could get burned fingers, messed up flies and living room carpet. Later, I will show you the method I use for applying hot glue. Its not as durable as epoxy--how many toothy fish do you expect on one fly.
I still consider myself an amateur at this and have much to learn.

I feel this is going to be a good program and hope we get a load of participants.

Later, Forrest

Looks good

Hi Im back! sorry for taking such a long leave. The site has changed and really looks good! The fly tying database is cool. In my past exsperiance the hardest part is getting a good picutre of the fly once tied. Lighting is a key issue. I dont have acess to a digtal camera anymore but as soon as I do ill add some to the data base.

WHOOPS! On the skirted clouser I posted the same pic for photo 2 and 3- only difference was what 2 was supposed to look like before skirt was started. Also, I'm not detailing the tying of the layers, whip finishing, or trimming as it it generally basic and instructions usually come with starter kits.

The one that really got me is the Mahi Flipper. That is a really innovative use of materials. Wating to see how you pull it off. those are some neat looking flies and I had already purchased a hot glue gun to try my hand at them. I guess I had better wait on the how to edition. Thanks for providing us with the technology. AL:) :) :)
