Jarden, the conglomerate that just recently puchased Pure Fishing (ABU, Berkley,Fenwick & others) has announced that in a deal made with K2 it will pay $15.50/share for K2 (Penn, Shakespeare and others).
I hope this doesn't mean ( as it has with many other things ) They will move all the manufacturing out of the US... build a bunch of the same crap all tagged with various names... and "marketed" as various qualities of equipment..
A lot of the K2 companies are primarily importers that have a warhouse and sales staff here in the US. There's not a lot of actual manufacturing from these guys. I have heard that the Jarden purchase of Pure Fishing didn't change things much. Thay changed hands and it's business as usual.
I guess with the sucess of The world poker tour TV show, Bee and Bicycle made Jarden a litlle cash heavy and outdoor products were looking like a cheap investment and compatible with their other outdoor products lines.
