Anybody know how the state plans to rebuild this pier?

I hope they make it big and long for king fishing.

Re: Jenettes Pier

Everything I know about Jennette's but you were afriad ot ask.

The latest on Jennette's Pier

The North Carolina Council of State needs to approve the transfer of the pier from the Aquarium Society to the North Carolina Aquariums Division. They have created at 12 million renovation plan for the 5.12 acre site. The new pier will be a 1000 foot structure that will be 25 feet wide. The pier will be funded with the Aquarium's admission funds and no state tax dollars would be used except for the 2.5 million dollars that the state has already given the Aquarium Division for this project. The schedule includes plans to be finalized by next April and construction starting in June with the pier being opened in 2010. The demolition of the old pier will be this winter.

According to the drawings the pier house will be 2 stories with a tackle shop, concession stand and arcade on the first level with the top being meeting rooms and catering. The water system will include medians and cisterns that will collect storm water, fresh water and saltwater to be for irrigation, plumbing water and replenish the water for the aquarium tank water.

Great info Roadkillal, appreciate it!
Re: Jenettes Pier

I used to fish there a lot when I was a young buck. You never knew when or what but there were usually some unexpected opportunities for the alert folks. I'm talking schools of fish that you would see a 1/4 mile away. Specks, grays, blow toads, blues & spanish mostly. Just when you thought there wasn't a fish around.... something would show up and it was a race to see how many you could catch before they got out of casting distance. I had a fishing partner from Utah of all places . We would show up Fri. night and fish until Sunday evening. Lines in the water the whole time. If we slept at all one of us would be watching the rods and the other would stretch out on those nice clean planks. Life was good! LOL
Re: Jenettes Pier

Thats the way I used to do on nags Head pier.. I'd have my own little campsite on the end of the pier and stay out there for days!!! I'd take a "birdbath" in the bathroom and stay another day!! Soaped up more than once in the cold water showers coming off the beach too at 3am..... AHHH the good ole days!!! But that was 15 yrs ago and alot has changed...
Re: Jenettes Pier

Jennette's was the first place I fished too. We would stay up at the Outer Banks Motor Lodge. My dad took us there but he was a golfer and didn't and still doesn't have the patience for fishing but I loved it. So my mother would drop me off in the morning and come get me aroud 4 in the afternoon. A few years later I would just hitchhike down (a perfectly acceptable mode of transportation for a teenager in the 70s).
Re: Jenettes Pier

Jennette's had running water right out on the end....Just no privacy... Timing and a small tarp took care of that. The National Seashore showers were pretty handy back then. Real handy for surf fishermen and bridge rats.

Re: Jenettes Pier

I still think they should install a live bait tank on the end like the one that was at the Long Beach Pier on Oak Island.

Now that was handy for keeping your threadfin herring and mullet alive for king fishing.
Seaview has one too.. Very handy!
