I don't and won't wear one at all times. There is a common sense factor.

If I drown in water too shallow for a life jacket to float me much less flip me over on my back.... It was just my time to go.

Because it is a personal choice, just like Drum Runner said. I wear one when I think I need to and other times I don't. Just like smoking or drinking alcohol, it's a choice. Everyone knows it's bad for you and can kill you but they still do it anyway.

IMO it's worse to go out alone with a PFD than to go out in company w/o one. It's a lot worse to take on a situation beyond your capability whether in company, wearing a PDF, wetsuit, spyderco knife or a PLB. All the gear in REI & OPC won't save you if you don't know what you're doing. Take your time, gain some experience and know your limits. Beyond that, like Drum Runner says, when it's your time it don't matter how prepared you are you're going out.
