I recently hooked up with a WS Tarpon 160i angler and have taken it out on the Catawba here near Charlotte. I'd like to get out on Mountain Island and Norman as well. I'm thinking trolling for stripers this time of year.

Does anyone have good ideas for a river trolling setup? So far, I'm thinking of the modified bottom finder rig seen here:

...possibly rigging it for double spoons.

Any other ideas?

You could go with a tube'n worm or plugs, chrome or silver seem to work very well. I've got a friend that drags a curly tail under a pop'r with the hooks off.

Does your friends setup work in a freshwater inland river? Are those rigs for topwater?

We are fishing them behind dams and in the lakes. It's been a month or two since we were on the water but we have the same idea you do.

One tip. Once you catch a fish sometimes they regugitate thir last meal(s). If they do try to size your bait to what they are feeding on. It can make a big difference most of the time.
