Fished Kerr today from 8 to 4. Water temp when I put in was 41, colder than I usually catch them in but I already drove a long way so I stuck it out and went fishing. The backs of some of the cuts had patches of ice. First few hours there was alot of rod dunking going on to unfreeze the guides. I ran a handful of my go to winter spots early alternating between a jerkbait and crankbaits, wasnt getting bit or even feeling like I was around fish, around 12:30 I made a change and ran to some cleaner water and pulled up on a main lake point and started throwing a jerkbait, after about 15 minutes, my rod loaded up and I caught a 14" largemouth. About another dozen casts with the jerkbait and I was ready to begin fishing my way to a nearby secondary point that usually holds some better quality fish. Pick up a crankbait and get bit on the second cast, came off after a few seconds, I am guessing it was a jack by the way it hit it and felt. About 10 minutes later I feel my crankbait hit a stump and pause, BAM. A jack engulfed it, I got both hooks free and he still didnt want to let it go. I finally get to my secondary point and hang up on about the 3rd cast, stunk up the spot getting my plug so I continue into the the cut with a crankbait, catch a 15" largemouth. I process infomation from the 2 fish I caught so I now feel like I have somewhat established a pattern so I start running it, never hooked up the rest of the day. To be honest I was happy with the 2 I caught in 41-42 degree water. Had a peaceful day and probably saw only 3 or 4 other boats.
