After fishing Belews yesterday and breaking the ice for 2015 with just a dink, I decided a day of catching was in order so I set out for Kerr Lake. I put in around 7:30 and started fishing. First fish of the day came pretty quick on a crankbait, a chunky 15" largemouth, that point has a history of holding good fish this time of year so I beat on it for all it was worth, right as I was ready to pick up and move on, a 3lber jumped on it. Made a run into another creek and caught a dink pretty quick and hit a few brush piles with nothing. Went back to cranking and caught another 3 lber and a 4.5. Checked a few other areas that were too muddy or too cold for my liking, went back to cleaner water and picked up 3 more fish and pulled one off, then I went fishless for a while and decided to run into a different creek, on the way I saw a 6 point buck swimming across a wide expanse of water, he made it all the way and still had engergy to run up a steep bank and into the woods. The other creek was pretty much a bust so i ran back and fished some of the areas from earlier again and tried a few places I have never fished and picked off a few more, most in the 14-15" range. I ended the day with 12 fish, 10 keepers with the best 5 around 13-14 lbs all caught on crankbaits.

Sure wish I could have gotten free for New Years Day, weather was right for Belews. I can typically find a couple fish worth keeping out there. <sigh> Work.

Nice job finding some fish on more 'home' waters, though!
