So this b last weekend thanks to Pizzaman and Chester I got my first ever topwater fish. I think it stuck...the topwater bug that is!

Went to a pond about 3:30 pm today and still had the spook jr tied on. Tossed it and started to walk the dog.

KABOOM!

Ended up with 17 fish in an hour all on the spook jr. Nothing real big all between 3/4 pounds to 2 pounds.

Needless to say Im loving the topwater now that I have a bit of confidence with it.

Congrats! I don't use a lot of topwaters, but I really like the Heddon Torpedo too.

I also like working a spinnerbait near the surface, where the blades create a bit of a break/wave. All the excitement of topwater fishing with the confidence of a spinnerbait! I realize buzzbaits are essentially designed to do that, but never got into buzzbaits for some reason :)

Well it's all over now, may as well sell those speedcraws! Joking of course, but there is nothing in the fishing world like topwater strikes. Couldn't tell you which I like more, walk the dog lures or a black buzzbait. You my Fiend are ruined.

Time to hit the backs of the creeks at Lucas with a spook. :)

Good job with the top water. My fave top water baits are the Torpedo, Pop R, and Zara Puppy.

I have no doubt that 75% of my bass caught so far this year ( and that is a number and average size that far exceeds Mack's best ever year) was on top. I attribute all my 2014 tournament wins to my sponsers and their topwater baits. Better late than never.

Heck!! Even last year when Nat was 9 he had about 35 pound in the net on a Jittterbug before Jeff and I could get retied. Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

PM sent.

For ponds that don't get heavy pressure, top water is a blast and the way to go. I prefer the Pop-R and Jointed Rapalas.

Congrats on your catches. I think I met you briefly at the Bay River M&G. I have Spooks and need to give them more time. BDonk a Donk is my go to top water lure for specks and drum, but I think there are more who use the Spook. Each works a bit differently to walk the dog.

You won't have to work nearly as hard to keep a buzzbait on top. The blades on a buzzbait has much more lift than a spinnerbait.

Yea definitely, I just like the versatility of spinnerbaits, and never got into buzzbaits. There is also something fun about creating that perfect balance of speed and lift that allows spinnerbaits to make that perfect bulge and wave on the surface :)
