It's looking like I'm getting a chance to go to kure late saturday night and sunday with my girlfriends family. Not going to be able to go too far from the Kure Beach Pier because my girlfriend and I will be sharing the car but I'm looking to do some late night surf fishing saturday night after 10P.M. and then fish snows cut in the morning then hopefully get back to the surf by high tide sunday afternoon. I fish a ton of rods in the surf so just wanted to hear what hooks and sizes y'all are using lately? I'll probably fish small circles for spot and have a few other rods set up for bigger fish. I experiment with a lot of different rigs and hook sizes I'm just curious as to what y'all have been using lately and how far out you've been catching fish. My main targets would be black and red drum, bluefish, or flounder. Is it worth my time to cast a 1oz jigging spoon? I've never fished one before but they sound fun to use.

I saw a weird fish in the marina at Carolina beach state park. It was sunning near the surface and I would have sworn it was a jack pickeral but I know it's salt water. Only thing I can think is lizard fish but it didn't at all look like one because it was so colorful and had four visible fins

I know what you are talking about and have seen several of them this year but they always manage to speed out from under my cast net so I haven't gotten an ID yet.

I tried to cast net one too! Also failed. Ended up with two keeper flounder, a decent stingray, a decent skate, and a few spots from the surf today. Saw the biggest school of mullet ever swimming past fort fisher. Not bad for the cold front.
